President Jimmy Carter

United States President Jimmy Carter returned from Camp David, the Presidential retreat near Thurmont, Maryland, to meet with his National Security Council concerning the crisis in Iran and the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in the Cabinet Room of the White House in Washington, DC on January 2, 1980.  Pictured with the President are US Secretary of State Cyrus Vance, left, and US Secretary of Defense Harold Brown, right.  In response to the crisis only United Nations sanctions have been proposed but members of the Carter Administration are considering other measures to gain the release of the American hostages in Iran and sanctions against the Soviets for invading Afghanistan.<br />
