President Jimmy Carter

United States President Jimmy Carter arrives in the Cabinet Room from Camp David, the Presidential retreat near Thurmont, Maryland, to meet with his National Security Council concerning the crisis in Iran and the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan at the White House in Washington, DC on January 2, 1980.  Recognizable with the President are US Deputy Secretary of State Warren Christopher, left, and Secretary of Defense Harold Brown, center left.  In response to the crisis only United Nations sanctions have been proposed but members of the Carter Administration are considering other measures to gain the release of the American hostages in Iran and sanctions against the Soviets for invading Afghanistan.<br />
