President Gerald R. Ford

With the aid of an interpreter, at left, United States President Gerald R. Ford and Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (U.S.S.R.) General Secretary Leonid Brezhnev begin their private talks on the train after the President's arrival in Vladivostok, U.S.S.R. on November 23, 1974.  Next to Ford is the United States Ambassador to the U.S.S.R. Walter Stoessel.  During these initial talks, many subjects were discussed and the two leaders were able to acquaint themselves with one another.  Later meetings in the two-day visit concerned the Strategic Arms Limitation Talks (S.A.L.T.).<br />
